The NSW Government realise that a number of children suffer serious injuries while some of these falls are even fatal. Consequently there have been Child Safety Laws implemented to windows that have a drop of 2 meters or more on the outside. Many of the falls happen at the residence where the child lives, which mostly happens in warmer months when ventilation is required.
The purpose of the restriction is to allow ventilation, but at the same time restricting the opening of the window so no more than a gap of 125mm is the given specification. Also on the inner side, if a window height is below 1700mm from the floor or climbable element, a window restricting device is required.
