The Birth of Pelican Products
Pelican was founded in 1976 by Dave Parker and his wife Arline in their Torrance, California garage. An avid Scuba diver since age 11, Dave recognized the need for rugged flashlights and cases that wouldn’t leak or fail and set out to build a better product than any other on the market. After years of hard work and sacrifice, Pelican Products became a reality with its first product patent, the Pelican Float™. The legendary SabreLite™ flashlight and Protector Cases soon followed.
Pelican Today
Pelican has grown from a mail-order family business to a world leader and global supplier of protective cases and safety equipment. In 2009 Pelican acquired Hardigg Industries, in the single largest acquisition in the industry’s history, bringing their expertise in rotomolding into Pelican’s toolkit. In 2012 Pelican widened its focus from government contracts and niche products to broader consumer products, branching out into advanced coolers using technology acquired from Minnesota Thermal Science in 2013, and most recently, a new line of vacuum flasks and water bottles made possible by the acquisition of Cool Logistics in 2014.
